    Getting back to working out
    I’ve had a rough past few years and my exercise routine went from 3-4 days a week of intense workouts, yoga and running to walking around my house/store and light exercise working in my yard. I’ve turned to mush. Now that I’ve passed age 40, it’s now harder for me to get back to being active. I thought these would be a good way to safely strengthen my leg muscles. I use these while I’m walking around the house or tending to my chickens in the yard. I know these aren’t going to build a whole lot of muscle, but they are helping. I got the 2×5 lb. weights so I can gradually increase the weight. The little weight “bars” are easy to remove and put back in. I have chicken legs and I’m still able to fit the weights tightly around my ankle. The velcro holds well. I’m really happy with these and hopefully this will be a stepping stone to getting back to being active.

    Great weights for resistance training
    This review needs to be prefaced with the fact I have a herniated disc and cannot do effective weight training in the gym. My primary method of muscle building is hiking moderate to difficult inclines. I took hiking back up last year after years of raising kids and not having the time to do long exercise routines. When starting out, my physical limit was about 2 miles of flat to gently rolling terrain. After a year of training I hit a record of a 3,000 ft cumulative climb over 13 miles. Some sections had grades upwards of 25%. While it is still very strenuous to do such a hike and I’m not nearly as fast as others (people are always walking past me), distance is now difficult to incorporate with the time change. That’s where these weights come in to play. They are added to compensate for shorter training sessions such that I don’t lose progress during the winter months. On days when I can only do a light workout of 4-5 miles these ankle weights help. What is convenient about them is that one pound at a time can be added as needed to increase the resistance. In a few months I’ll be taking my scale measurements again and hopefully will see an increase in muscle mass, or at least maintain, as a result of incorporating these weights.
