Nicely padded, more comfortable than a Peleton mat
I’ll admit that my experience with yoga mats isn’t extensive, but I am still a bit surprised to see other reviewers complaining that this mat is not as thick as they expected. My point of reference is the Peleton mat that came with our Tread. I’ve never really had a problem with the comfort of that mat, though granted it is being used on a carpeted floor. But the mat I’m reviewing today is about twice as thick as the Peleton mat. It feels almost luxuriously comfortable to use by comparison. In other dimensions, this mat appears to be the same length as our Peleton mat, but it is about 2 inches narrower. I do not know if there is such thing as a standard size yoga mat, but this one appears to be within the range of normal. I’m pretty sensitive to chemical smells in products, and I’m pleased to report that this mat has very little of that. What smell there was after removing it from the package was minor and dissipated very quickly. While I do not plan to roll this mat up and take it outside of the house, I should know that it does come with a carrying strap which would be helpful in such cases. But on the topic of having it rolled up, after I unrolled it, I noticed that the ends were curling up a little bit. The mat has been sitting on our floor for a few days and it still has a bit of a curl. I’ve uploaded a picture to show this. I’m not particularly concerned about it, and I assume it will eventually lay flat. But if you are going to frequently be rolling your mat up, you might have to deal with a little bit of curl on a more permanent basis. 4.5/5 stars. Comparing to other mats on Amazon, this one seems priced reasonably well given that it is substantially thicker than many others. I can’t say how this mat will hold up over the long run, but so far I’m happy with it. If you were looking for a mat on the thicker side for a little more comfort, I think this one is worth your consideration.
This yoga mat is light and fairly thin, but it still feels like good quality. I mainly use it outdoors on the ground, so I usually place a towel underneath for extra cushioning and that setup works well for me. The texture has a nice grip which helps keep my hands and feet from slipping during poses – safety first! It's also easy to carry around because it's so lightweight, which is great if you need to bring it with you to a park or class. I ordered the red/matcha green color but it's more of a purple/teal. The colors are still nice though, and I actually like the contrast between the front and back sides of the mat. The size is pretty standard and fits my body frame comfortably (I am 5'7" and 150 lbs). It gives me enough space for practice. Overall, it's a simple, functional mat that is easy to use and transport.
